- Always wear protective gear and have a good mental attitude.
- Be extra careful in intersections and be aware of blind spots.
- In an emergency stop be sure you're in the upright position and the handlebars are square.
- Too much front brake pressure can cause a front tire skid. In this event, release brake and re-apply if necessary.
- Slowing quickly can cause a rear tire skid from the weight transfer to the front tire. In this event, keep pressure on the rear brake and maintain balance to stay upright.
Engine start procedure acronym FINE-C
Fuel - fuel valve is on
Ignition - turn ignition to ON position
Neutral - be in neutral
Engine cut-off switch - turn the switch to the RUN/ON position
Choke/Clutch - set choke (if equipped) as needed for cold engines. Also, many motorcycles require the clutch to be engaged to start
Approaching a turn Acronym SLPR (pronounced slipper)
Slow - reduce speed before entering the turn
Look - look ahead for hazards and evaluate the turn
Press - press the handlebar to initiate motorcycle lean
Roll - use the throttle to maintain or slightly increase speed
Remember 'Search-Setup-Smooth'
Search while approaching and going through the curve, setup the motorcycle to the correct lane position and appropriate speed, and finally continue through the curve smooth without any jerky movements.
